Fairy Houses and the reconstruction of the Woodlands
While in the midst of creating an enchanting fairy house for a customer, I received a bit of a learning experience. And I am thankful for the experience. I suppose most experiences in life can be viewed as a learning experience whether they are a good or a not so good one.
Clear communication in the process of custom ordering is especially tricky when dealing with email and the written word. Thoroughness can be lost. And in this case I missed some things to ask and to be thorough about. But whatever happened with this particular order, it turned out to be a great experience overall. And from the feedback so far, the customer is happy with the end result and that means more to me than anything.
For most crafters and artists I would think that expressing ones self in the creative flow is number one. It's a release. Secondly, for me when creating an item for my Etsy shop, Woodland Fairy Village, is that the customer sees the item as somthing that speaks to them personally and loves it for whatever reasons.
Here are the updated photos of a "dollhouse" style fairy house that changed into a Woodland "Tree house" style fairy house.
Thoughts while creating this updated version was the sense of looking inside a tree in the forest. The fairy houses I create are not just twigs and bark but my thoughts from Woodland Fairy Village are that the fairies although rustic, have access to human items and create miniatures from them. Not all fairy houses need to be primitive. My favorite way to create fairy houses is to incorporate forest elements like discarded twigs and bark with other not so primitive miniatures. My fairy houses are not your typical dollhouse, using 1:12 scale typical miniatures. My scale of houses are various therefore using dollhouse miniatures are not always feasible.
I really love the way this turned out. It is more my woodland fairy style than the before images found in the article prior to this one. The dollhouse style was pretty but this is more like a fairy house that would be in my fairy world of Woodland Fairy Village. The fairies that live in Woodland Fairy Village, are forest like in nature, some darker, but also this village while having it's primitive side, also has fairies that know how to get things that humans use. This is the balance that resides in the Woodlands.
Fairy House custom made with fairy dust!
This is a custom order that I have recently completed. Although typically I do not take on custom orders, I did in this case. Custom orders are tricky when it come to creating any kind of art. When I begin a new fairy house I find the inspiration in just one picture, one image, a piece of material or mixed media item that I have come across. Where that road takes me in the creative sense can be quite different from how it began. So, I feel the creativeness of someone elses visions tend to limit my ability to work fluently within my own creative process.
This piece is specifically designed for a four year old girl. With the intention of a DISPLAY piece only not a usable doll house.
A birthday present. I created this with a few things about the child in mind. She loves animals, sparkles, music and still believes in fairies. Hey, who doesn't. =)
Fairy Sparkles everywhere
Enchanting was the key word for me when creating this fairy house. I was to work with a high design and a living quarters. I made the bedroom on the first level in order to provide a requested clothing area. I mounted a piece of circular wood to a bearing and made the clothing rack in the center. This allows the circle to spin. I made an attached lighting area with a mirror and hand made miniature fairy dresses. The bed is a raised style with comforter, bed ruffle and pillow sham. I also made a ceiling light using wire and a pink Swarovski square crystal with a tini pink flower for underneath. There is a glass cabochon heart that has a Graphic45 fairy that is playing music. So that at bedtime a lullaby of music can be played. ;)
The eating area has a handmade wood circular table, two handmade chairs, miniature ceramic plate and cup that includes a miniature bread roll and pink cookie.
The living room (top floor) has a pink couch, woodland chair, floor lamp, end table with a vase of flowers and a framed fairy art print.
There is a window on the main area that has a fairy in the background.
The grounds include a mini gray cat that has a matching bed cover, greenery, vines, trees, and a mini purple mushroom. The back carries the theme with whispy style trees and a miniature deer.
All in all this house was such a delight to create. I hope this little girl enjoys this house for many years.
Fairy Houses from the darker side of fairy folklore~
The Apothecary fairy house I recently created sold pretty fast. I have always had a more intense fascination of the darker side of the fairy folklore, druids and more. Not all fairies that are dark are necessarily what is to be considered evil but yet they possess supernatural abilities that other fairies do not.
Here is a look at just a couple more of most recent creations.
The Voodoo Hut
And my newly updated small base witch house HAZEL:
One of my latest creations. A mini village all in one. It is called: Three Sisters:
Many mini details are in this creation including door wreaths, outside furniture, basket of flowers, planters and more. All handcrafted.
Additonal new ones will be up this week!
Fairy houses and fairy shoes~
As some know I love the folklore of the fae. The Scottish and Irish tales of fairies that live in the Woodlands. That is where my inspiration comes from. With my research of such tales, I noticed the various descriptions of the fairies themselves. Some do believe that they are of an evil nature.
Some believe that they are magical and bring forth positive energy. I myself believe in both.
And in saying that I have created the "Fairy Shoe." This little woodland shoe has special powers attached to it. As the wizards wand chosens it's owner, as does the enchanted fairy shoe. Finding one of these shoes can either be a blessing or a curse.
My Etsy shop Woodland Fairy Village, not only has fairy houses but carries these magical little shoes. Each listing is for one enchanted shoe that chooses you and comes with it's own little decorated (inside) display case. Of course you get the magical legend printed out on parchment paper. The legend is stated in poem form. For a blessing you receive the fairy shoe, the case, and the poem that wishes you luck. For a curse you receive the fairy shoe, the case and the legend with a little riddle to undue it's curse and bring you good luck! ;)
All of this for only $7.95! Come check them out in my Woodland Fairy Village Etsy shop! And may luck come your way!
